german creative collective raumlaborberlin has designed an indoor/outdoor installation for the 4th european month of photography in berlin. located at the heart of the festival at the berlinische galerie, ‘soft solution’ consists of an inflated, grid-like space seemingly extruding out of the building’s structure. resembling a puffy oversized jungle gym, the design of the outdoor component aims to initiate a spatial conversation between it and the interior: while soft, pneumatic and ephemeral on the exterior, the interior treatment is hard and edged. through this contrast, the viewers engage with the two different spaces and experience the tension of original vs. copy, metamorphosis vs. reflection.
