foundation architecture & design developed an iconic concept for the ‘jimmy connors world of tennis’ stadium & tennis centre in abu dhabi. the proposed design for the tennis centre and stadium is inspired by the deconstruction of a tennis ball.
the dissected shell of the ball has been conceptually rearranged to form an enclosure for the tennis centre and the bowl for the stadium, creating iconic and instantly recognisable architectural forms that echo the sport to which the buildings relate. the distinctive curves of the seams are apparent in the roof lines of the buildings. the shells of the buildings float above a podium that enables sheltered movement between the facilities.
