DONIS: london gate

rotterdam-based practice DONIS has won the international competition for a new gateway to the city of london. ‘london gate’ is a temporary landmark that aims to regenerate the city’s historic financial centre by reinterpreting the old form of the ‘aldgate’ into a modern, streamlined silhouette. the 100 meter structure will not only function as a horizontal gateway, but will also allow vertical access through a glazed elevator platform.

‘london gate’ will open to the public in january 2012, and will stand for the complete duration of the 2012 london olympic and paralympic games.
