ireland-based firm heneghan peng architects‘ winning design proposal of the central park bridges is well underway for the 2012 london olympics. the two permanent bridges that link the narrow diagonal span over carpenters lock aim to be a continuous landscape that seamlessly extends across the various waterways and railways, forming a primary movement infrastructure surface for the park. two bowls are created on either side of the lock linking the upper park concourse with the lower level of towpaths and waterways. to celebrate and capture the spirit of the olympic games, the surface of the temporary infill deck will use recycled running shoes to create a multi-colored ‘confetti’ carpet.
