‘lucid flux’ is a new installation german designer moritz waldemeyer has created for car company audi, to showcase their sub-compact A1 and A8 luxury sedans. on show at milan design week 2010, ‘lucid flux’ is structured around the two show cars. as a streamlined sculpture which hangs above, the piece highlights the link between the smallest and largest models of the audi family.
the structure is composed of continuous lines of LED mounted on 13 m long transparent polycarbonate strips. 2, 000 LEDs create a visual effect like smoke jets around the vehicles. if the strips are not aligned, the cascades of light form abstract designs. when they are lined up, the flow of light is controlled to form an interactive text display. the installation is meant to reflect the theme of ‘life companion’ between car and driver.
