under the design platform ‘books’, tasuo yamamoto and jun hashimoto has created ‘muku’, two lanterns which came out of their research on the form of traditional japanese lamps called ‘ouchi andon’. contrary to conventional japanese lamps which uses processed wood with a lacquered finish for its frame parts, the designer experimented with various materials, including aluminum, acrylic and ceramic.
through their continuous process of trial and error, the designer found out that wood was the most suited material to create the lamp not only from an aesthetic and design point of view, but also structurally speaking.
‘muku’ lanterns is being exhibited during milan design week 2010.
