‘welding wood’ stool with caned seating
spanish design studio culdesac has designed ‘welding wood’ a collection of furniture for bars and restaurants. the project revives two different traditional furniture production techniques: lathe joined wood and steam bentwood. culdesac has combined the two methods to generate their own technique ‘welding wood’ which is defined when two pieces of wood connect. where they meet, the section of the wood increases and once this is done the wood is curved to achieve the structure and functionality of the stools and tables. the lathe work is no longer used for aesthetic purposes only, but also as a structural provider.
