detail of the different materials and components of the ‘successful living kitchen’ by diesel for scavolini
in a merging of fashion and design, italian brands diesel and scavolini teamed up for the interdisciplinary ‘successful living’ project – the social kitchen. the extension of diesel’s philosophy applied to home collection, defined as premium casual living, where the energy of a party enters into the kitchen. the trend sees the kitchen and the living area melting in a single project, where design meets the informal.
the modular space is based on the idea that the kitchen should become not just a room in which to cook and eat, but a space for gathering and relaxation. with comfort in mind, the furniture pieces are finished in vintage materials. wood, steel, cement and glass are combined with metal for an aged look. the tactile and ‘lived in’ essence of the multipurpose area is also evident through reinforced mesh glass built into the cupboard doors and textured metal surfaces.
‘I and my team chose to bring our culture and lifestyle to this collaboration, our love for things that have been experienced and interpreted with a soul; we have therefore developed different materials, new, yet ‘lived-in’, with shades of colour and hues never before used…‘ – renzo rosso (chairman and founder of diesel)
the successful living kitchen was displayed at superstudio più in via tortona during milan design week 2012.

the diesel social kitchen is made not only on the modularity of each element but also on separate modules to assemble freely with each other. this aspect of the project is represented by the MISFITS collection, a line of non-modular freestanding objects which fit in the kitchen such as carts, tables and storage units.

the glass doors are available with wire mesh for a pleasing retro effect. the handles are large, of various types, metal used-effect too, like, the big american style handle that defines the refrigerator door. the idea is to give life to a living environment that combines with irony a vintage soul and industrial-inspiration details.
