the vinyl record designed by michael hansen creates an animation themed to the music while spinning on the turntable
danish designer michael hansen has created specially printed double-sided vinyl records as a means of visualizing music through a stop-motion-like animation, produced naturally by the effect of the disc spinning on a turntable. the project was developed for a two-track recording by modern classical composer allan gravgaard madsen.
both the album cover and the surface of the vinyl are designed specifically for the song recorded on that side– ‘waves’ or ‘crystal tapestry’. the images on the record itself (a 33 1/3 RPM) create moving animations when played on a turntable and lit with a strobelight at 50 to 60 Hz.
