‘the future is on show in milan – colani, biodesign codex show’ presents the first retrospective of german-born swiss-italian luigi colani, who can be considered not just as an industrial designer, but shape scientist – a ‘real sciences artist’. the exhibition is on show at the triennale bovisa, and presents more than 1000 works of art, designs installations which colani has produced in the more than 60 years of his practice. the pieces on show change the meaning of shape and form for viewers. experiencing the exhibition is like taking a journey through a time machine. it presents the work of a man who can be considered an eco-design guru, as already back in the 1960s, he was already campaigning for saving energy, reducing consumption and using alternative energy resources.
within a 1,500m² outdoor space at the exhibition venue, a selection of colani’s conceptual and realized car designs present the diversity of forms of his automotive projects, always conceived with an aerodynamic approach in mind. this presentation of his extreme speed cars includes his ferrari testa d’oro (italian for ‘gold head’), which reached the world record in its class at 351 km/h, back in 1989.
