the ‘collar’ cabinets, designed by oki sato of tokyo and milan -based studio nendo for quodes furniture company, are a modular storage system, named after the 1960s style of shirt collar that informs their front appearance.
in the series, raised tabs of metal on all four edges of the front face serve as both a decorative door and drawer handles. a range of differently sized bookcases and cabinets satisfies a range of storage needs and is designed to let the pieces be arranged together into custom configurations. the cabinets vary from 100 to 300 centimeters (3.2 – 9.8 feet) in length, with a newly designed small bookcase module created at 25 by 20 by 35 centimeters (9.8 x 7.9 x 13.8 inches).
designed in a series of grey, white, and yellow tones, the cabinets are made of lacquered MDF with powder-coated or lacquered aluminum fronts, and the bookcases of powder coated sheet metal.
