‘streetlights’ by pslab and dos architects
created for the clerkenwell design week 2011, ‘streetlights’ is a temporary installation by beirut-based studio pslab in conjunction with dos architects in london. drawing from the pair’s first collaboration in 2008, pslab revisited vintage car headlamps as a light source that could accommodate the constraints of an external setting. 220 original fixtures were produced to light up dos architects’ office facade. to overcome the site’s spatial needs, the key technical detailing in this project is the metal ‘skin’ that was fixed parallel to the wall’s uneven surface of brick, glass, and steel. this supplementary layer holds the headlamp fixtures in their gridded pattern and hides the wiring inside it.
