‘PP tube #2 chair’ images courtesy of outdoorz gallery
we have received images of ‘PP tube 2 chair’ by british designer tom price. the furniture object is a continuation of price’s ‘meltdown series’ in which he experiments in using mundane plastic products, processing them to create a collection of sculptural seating.
the chair is constructed from varying lengths of polypropylene tube that have been melted and pressed together
‘PP tube 2 chair’ utilizes polypropylene tubes cut at varying lengths which are heated and pressed together to form the seat’s shape. the plastic liquifies as it comes in contact with heat, and as it cools, sets into the shape of a seat, resulting in a contrast of forms and textures amongst the tubes. no additional materials or fasteners are used in its construction. it is purely made from melted tubes. the chairs come in a limited edition of 50 pieces.
