marcel wanders designs cell phone for the alessi x iida collaboration
italian design manufacturer alessi and japanese product manufacturer iida have collaborated on a cell phone project incorporating designs by stefano giovannoni, patricia urquiola and marcel wanders.
the back of the phone features a raised skeleton pattern
dutch designer marcel wanders‘ response to the collaboration was to make smart phones reminiscent of precious metals. his design features a smooth curved back, decorated with a raised skeleton pattern. available in four color variations, wanders’ phone expresses a contrast between modernism and artisan craftsmanship.

the phones were presented in tokyo during the annual designers week and as part of the offsite events of designtide tokyo 2010.
