dutch designer pepe heykoop in collaboration with tiny miracles foundation has launched a line of products called ‘leather lampshade’. resembling old metal industrial lamps, the design of the lampshades put a softer spin on the iconic form with its all leather appearance and construction. available in two shapes, horizontal and vertical, and in two different finishes, grey and beige, the leather used for the products are only from skins that are byproducts to other manufactured projects.
all the lampshades are handmade by a group of women that heykoop has set up himself in mumbai, india through the tiny miracles foundation, an organization set out to improve the life of street kids. the aim of the project is to engage as many underprivileged people in the process as possible. for every lampshade sold, the equivalent of a month of school fees is donated to the daughters of the twenty mothers who produce the lampshades.
