gallery libby sellers presents ‘L bar’, a pop-up bar located at the andaz hotel‘s entrance, on liverpool street during london design week 2010.
faced with the challenge of commissioning a design for the bar within a short time frame and overseeing its physical manifestation within a couple of weeks, gallery libby sellers appointed london-based practice glass hill (markus bergström and joe nunn) to complete the job.
a large flat bed truck delivered the bar in sections. then the roof was craned onto the legs before encasing the structure in red cedar shingle panels. over the course of two days, glass hill constructed the bar.
for the design duo, the brief was a fast paced one, which allowed them to bring their poetic design solutions to a wider audience. during five days of the festival, the wooden, vaulted ‘L bar’ will provide drinks for both the local commuter and design community from september 21st – 25th, at 5-8pm daily.
