kyouei design/ kouichi okamoto solo exhibition
museum of art. the show will include two lighting installations; ‘mobile light’ and ‘bulb latern’ along with the
unveiling of new prototypes; ‘plaster lamp’. ‘water clock’ ‘glass wrap’ and ‘waribashi hashi’.
mobile light
a modular mobile unit which emits light using solar powered LED’s. the fixtures emit become brighter automatically as the environment darkens. okamoto will create an installation with hundreds of mobile lights for the exhibition.

bulb lantern
created for designboom mart in stockholm furniture fair 2008, the large paper lanterns will be installed for the first time in japan.

umbrella pot
this ceramic umbrella stand features a small plant pot at the bottom which collects rain water to nourish the plant.

plaster lamp
a lamp composed of a plaster cast (of okamoto’s own leg) and a crutch.

water clock
the ceramic base encases magnetic clock hands that allow the the final design to differ. the colored magnetic balls are moved by the hands and thus read the time – one displaying hours the other minutes. the designer uses bowls, and glasses of water for the magnetic balls to float in.

glass wrap
a cover made of 0.5mm heat-resistant glass, PYREX that looks like a plastic cling film.
waribashi hashi
PBT resin chopsticks in the shape of half-split wooden chopsticks.
