the ‘plup’ magazine series, including ‘iqueen’, will be released in a digital version for sony playstation that utilizes hollywood’s 4K ultra-high-resolution

created in collaboration with lucent pictures entertainment, ‘plup‘ is the world’s first series of ultra-high resolution stereo and 3D magazines, offered by sony to its japan playstation store. the publications make use of sony’s playview technology, which permits almost infinite zoom into displayed images and documents on playstation devices. the august release of the service will support 3D 4K resolution, which can also be used to view the digital magazines.

the publication format is called ‘4K’, short for the 4096×2160 resolution it offers. currently, high-end camcorders and projectors utilize the format, which is the hollywood standard. with the knowledge that a small percentage of playstation 3 consoles are linked to a 4K-ready display, sony is releasing the digital versions of the japanese print magazines, to begin with an issue of ‘iQueen’ set to feature japanese actress masami nagasawa, and an edition of ‘abutton’ featuring riho takada.

available in the japanese playstation store in august, the magazines will cost about 2100-3700 yen (25-45 USD).
