sculptor nic joly has developed a collection of miniature figurines frozen in small-scale narratives entitled ‘under foot’. what started as a hobby of the artist in 2006– crafting miniature toys to entertain his two children has now become a full-time occupation. the hampshire, UK residing artist creates sculptures of tiny people, typically moulded at a height of one centimeter with a width of 0.5 centimeter in various scenarios. joly creates these small pieces from clay, wire and paper without the assistance of a magnifying glass. the sculptor fashions every detail of his figurines by hand over a four day to a week long period, considering each of his works to be frozen, miniature theater.
