‘thermobooth’, the collaboration between vienna-based designer talia radford of taliaYstudio and media artist jonas bohatsch at vienna design week 2013 has been conceived as part of an on-going exploration with emotional interactions in electronics. the project combines a photobooth experience with human-based gestures; a shutter release system from specially developed high-tech OLED mirrors by osram acts as a flash and display, which works in conjunction with a camera that creates instant lo-fi thermal image print-outs. when standing on two conductive plates, the device activates when skin contact is made between more than one person. for about 20 seconds, a show of blinking OLEDs occurs, which is the time needed for the system to develop the pictures onto a small scroll of receipt-like paper.
