san fransisco-based hardware and software company aether have launched their first product, ‘cone’, an intelligent thinking music player that learns what users like and plays their favorite tunes, creating a personalized music experience that gets better over time. the smart device adapts to what one likes to listen to, when and where they like to listen to it, archiving all the information behind a touch sensitive dial.

‘the world is filled with new devices that do amazing things, yet the more you own, the harder you have to work to connect, manage and troubleshoot them,’ says duncan lamb, co-founder and chief product officer at aether. ‘the world of music offers so much choice and capability that it can be overwhelming and difficult to simply enjoy listening,’ adds ben fullerton, head of design. ‘cone makes it easy to hear something great by applying aether’s machine learning software across music and content services in order to learn what you like and play what you love.’

the speaker is powered via bluetooth, and can be wirelessly installed anywhere throughout one’s home. compatible with internet radio, it comes pre-loaded with music and podcasts helping users find new music based on their personal taste. cone is offered a black/copper finish, and will be available with additional color combinations being introduced later in 2014. to see how it works, see here.
