‘tekné vietnam’ by johanna westinswedish designer johanna westin has presented ‘tekné vietnam’ as her masters project at lund university, sweden. spending roughly 3 months in hanoi, vietnam, she worked closely with local manufacturers to investigate the possibilities of collaboration through developing products using their craftsmanship skills. by using locally sourced materials and looking at optimizing production methods and minimizing wastage, the traditional methods and techniques for creating products are maintained. the small collection of furniture pieces tailored for the european market include lamps, storage baskets and a foldable tray table in rattan, alongside different carpets made from woven sea grass.

the products work as an inspiration for the manufacturers, showing them that it is possible to create products that can be adapted to other

demographics by educating them to understand how raw materials can open up new possibilities of production in vietnam.
