the journey of sebastian errazuriz kenny schachter’s rove gallery, london on now until september 22nd, 2012

‘the journey of sebastian errazuriz’ presents a selection of hand-made wood models, drawings and blueprints behind some of the best-known works of chilean-born new york-based creative sebastian errazuriz. presented as part of the london design festival 2012 program, the solo exhibition at rove gallery expresses the detail and obsession errazuriz takes turning what would be considered maquettes, into miniature sculptures which capture the intimacy and poetry behind each one of his life-size functional pieces. on this occasion, for the first time, errazuriz presents the final full size version of his ‘boat coffin’, which plays into the notion and overall feeling of a funeral or wake that he wishes to achieve with this special installation. this show marks his 10 years of art and design practice, which is celebrated with his first monograph by gestalten publishers marking the end of one decade of work and the beginning of a new one.

the opening of the exhibition is tonight, september 19th, 2012 from 7-11pm.

‘the journey of sebastian errazuriz’ exhibition coincides with the unveiling of sebastian’s monograph under the same name. the book includes intimate conversations errazuriz has had with fellow artist tom sachs, as well as MoMA senior curator paola antonelli. the publication offers a good overview of his work including photos of each project, concept sketches and general documentation of his creative development over the last decade.
