naoshi kondo presents mobile installation, straight

Naoshi Kondo’s STRAIGHT transforms Milan’s urban landscape as it parades the city during Milan Design Week 2024. The mobile installation features a hand-pulled cart equipped with a small Japanese-style tea room that welcomes visitors to enjoy a quiet moment of respite while sipping a drink within. The space encapsulates the minimalist geometry of Japanese architecture, fitted with linear elements that symbolize constraints born from action, aiming to redefine traditional norms, values, and universality.

japan’s smallest tea room ventures around milan

A designer, architect, and artist, Naoshi Kondo boldly employs a minimalistic approach to transcend universality for his recent work. STRAIGHT embodies a continuous exploration of activity, even in realms perceived as meaningless. Throughout the duration of Milan Design Week, running from April 15th to 21st, the installation continuously journeyed across the city, making appearances at various landmark or quaint locations upon request. In this compact space, visitors were invited to enjoy Japanese sake, facilitating interactions with the public and presenting opportunities to discover new possibilities within space and design.
