architectural lighting brand luminosa is proud to announce its collaboration with online marketing group lokald at the abierto mexicano de diseño in mexico city. the company is dedicated to the design and manufacturing of high-quality, hand made objects for the contemporary interior. ‘our philosophy is quite simple, to create original and lasting interior lighting of the highest calibre. our signature is colour and form – strong curvaceous lines and contemporary hues allowing the unique juxtaposition of color, form and light to illuminate the interior creating a warm and intimate space.’ this can be seen through each product presented at the event.

the ‘cacahuate’ is spanish for ‘peanuts’, a legume that is widely known throughout the country. thus, the designers have taken the universal form of the pod and its seed, and they have translated it into a sinuous lamp. the body bulges towards its top and bottom, which correspondingly represented to the base and the opening, as a single tube is enclosed. ‘we wanted a form that complimented, rather than dominated, the interior,’ says luminosa.

throughout history, the pearl, with its eternal inner glow and iridescence has remained one of the most highly-esteemed gems. references to its shape can be found in the folklores of cultures such as ancient egypt and rome. the ‘perla’ pendant lamp is a celebration of the shelled mollusk. the reflective diffuser emanates warm illuminance towards its surroundings during the day and night, providing different levels of intimacy.

the ‘rustica’ is a decorative pieces that has been derived from the traditional antique style of bubbly glass found throughout mexico. it has been hand blown from the brand’s signature colors to show a seemingly natural result of the processes used to create it. thus, the exterior surface has become more tactile, as a random dispersement of protrusions change the way that light and shadow bounce and reflect off of the overall form.

the ‘tamarindo’ lamp is a contemporary interpretation of the tamarind, a fruit first introduced to the country by the spaniards.  the sleek and curvaceous light hangs effortlessly with its elongated form juxtaposed by a tubular lamp emanating warmth from within.

luminosa’s ‘twisters’ are a present-day version of traditional wire and glass lamps. the geometries expose the potential for the hand blown process. alongside steel during the production method, the designers were able to achieve the project’s optical effect that appears as a delicate lace moire.
