beirut-based studio david/nicolas has realized ‘bar michele’ as an eclectic mesh of styles, materials and methods of use. informed by the shape and physical characteristics of a gymnastic beam, along with the performance of equestrian equipment, the social unit embodies an overall sense of balance and equilibrium.
glass and marble tables are attached to either side of the tanned leather beam
an interesting mix of mediums — such as leather, polished brass, iranian white onyx marble and black painted metal — allow ‘bar michele’ a certain quirky factor, making it it work in a variety of surroundings and interior environments. those interacting with the piece are encouraged to either sit or straddle along the length of the tanned leather beam, leaning over and resting drinks on marble and glass tables secured above. on opposing ends, hanging below the space allotted for resting, two equestrian-style stirrups allow a seated person to support their legs for optimized comfort.
the object offers multiple possibilities for social interaction
co-founded david raffoul and nicolas moussallem, the studio’s sometimes diverging opinions and philosophies give their design objects unconventional character and unique personalities. for ‘bar michele’, different styles, aesthetics, adaptations, materials and methods of interaction bring forth a functional piece that can be incorporated into a wide range of spatial contexts.
