delicate flower constructions by anne ten donkelaar

netherlands-based artist anne ten donkelaar constructs her intricate flowerscapes using both real pressed flowers that she collects collaged with paper floral elements. the series of three-dimensional collages display intertwined branches climbing towards the top of the canvas, decorated with vibrant pink peonies, blue cacti, and tiny yellow roses. each overlapping element is delicately fixed to the canvas with tiny pins, creating dynamic depth and levels of montaged vegetation.
donkelaar is influenced by the unique discoveries she finds hidden in nature. her previous work was with butterflies in which she collected damaged specimens, then repaired them through detailed pieces of textile and paper elements. you can take a look at designboom’s coverage of ‘broken butterflies’ here.
