with his series of ‘art lies‘ brazlian artist lorenzo castellini juxtaposes famous faces from masterpieces — a portrait from picasso’s ‘les demoiselles d’avignon’, the uncanny image of frida kahlo and botticelli’s beautiful venus, to name a few — with photographed figures and scenes on the streets of são paulo. by holding a cut-out paper picture of each painted head and carefully matching it up to the body of a stranger, friend or casual passerby, castellini creates air collages that both unite and contradict two artistic styles, time periods, mediums and work.
