‘hybrid housing’ was an conceptual architecture competition hosted by ctrl + space. the contest’s goal was the creation of a single mixed-use (most residential) building — location: hamburg, germany — possible of providing answers to the issue of densification in the urban centre. the best solution was found in the proposal ‘we are here to stay’ by italian architect gabriele filippi.

filippi places variety at the center of his creation. the building is composed of a seemingly endless variety of routes, places, functions, visual cues, materials, windows, and architectural forms. the conglomeration of all is so complex, and unpredictable, that it effectively mirrors the chaos of modern life. private and public are interwoven amongst streets and tangents, breaking the monotony of life, and showing inhabitants the beauty of spontaneity.
