‘ferme musicale’ by SOA and holdup, bordeaux, franceimage © SOA
mixing culture and agriculture, french practices SOA and holdup teamed up to create a space where musical, educational and artistic exchanges occurwithin the natural flora of an urban vertical farm, a theme diligently pursued by the firm. located in the remains of neil’s barracks, the project contains anexhibition space, theater, gallery service spaces on the ground floor supporting a stacked lightweight steel modular structure hoists the many vegetativecultures as if hovering over the program. the building itself becomes an educational component, inviting the visitor to observe every process of food production and life cycle down to the very seed. with increased employment and biologically intelligent farming methods, the project aims to provide a model for a future where the production of ‘green’ energy can coexist with our sociological needs. the adaptable system implements a water-efficient recycling process, ample and effective use of solar energy, and a sustainable food production method that greatly reduces the need for transportationand its consequent resources.
