ceramic pavilion and pathway by sanahuja & partners promote tourism in a spanish village

this pavilion, located in the spanish town of alcossebre, is part of a strategic plan to encourage tourism within the coastal village. designed by sanahuja & partners, the scheme has been developed in collaboration with the polytechnic university of valencia and seeks to promote the area through small urban interventions. in its realization, the project uses ceramic products of different thickness, formats, colors, and finishes.

the project is part of a strategic plan to encourage tourism

the structure is influenced by the mediterranean lattice, used in many neighboring seafront buildings dating back to the 1960s and 70s. a white glazed ceramic lattice grid three semi-transparent walls of different lengths, which wrap around the building. these partitions filter strong sunlight, external views, and coastal winds — improving both thermal and lighting conditions. a further ceramic element has been used to create a second skin enveloping the tourist office. this façade purifies the air by removing potentially harmful nitrogen oxide.

the information office is part of a wider development that includes the pedestrianization of the paseo vista alegre, a street that runs along the seafront promenade. this aspect of the scheme, also conceived by sanahuja & partners, features a technical porcelain pavement made from a wide variety of individual pieces. these multiple combinations of sizes and finishes provide infinite possibilities, generating an entirely new urban fabric.
