part of sir richard branson’s portfolio of distinctive retreats, ‘mahali mzuri‘ is a luxury safari camp located 240 kilometers west of nairobi in kenya’s motorogi conservancy.
situated within the maasai mara ecosystem, the development has been configured to minimize environmental impact with lightweight structures that promote low density tourism. established in collaboration with the neighboring community, the sustainable approach sees the promotion and hiring of local workers and the use of regionally sourced materials. the program features an on-site infinity pool and spa treatments for guests, with twice daily game drives and guided walks and tours to local villages.
the development has been configured to minimize environmental impact
twelve tented suites are perched on an elevated ridge each with a large deck overlooking the sprawling plains and valleys below. each individual dwelling comprises a comfortable lounge area and a spacious bedroom with en-suite bathroom. completed by canvas specialists byDESIGN, the lightweight structures are adapted to the local climate and terrain, with arched canopies that visually blend into the environment – an original design that incorporate traditional elements of the region’s architecture. the interiors feature bespoke furnishings chosen by real studios, with bamboo light fittings, basket-woven lamps and wooden furniture.
