‘musk and moss’ is a concept by jakob gomez that focuses on image assessment, style, and personal care, giving an exclusive service for men. located in san pedro garza garcía, méxico, the design finds its basis on a primitive cave. the interior atmosphere revives classic men barbershops where connections between clients, surroundings, and other activities are encouraged.

each working station is based on three elements: mirrors with perimeter LED lights behind black stainless polished steel frames suspended above wooden rectangular drawers, which serve as useful work tables with multiple outlets for barber accessories.

in addition, the space is mainly made of two materials: polished concrete and solid granite, a material that holds its own unique composition on its vein patterns. these ingredients distinguish different programs of the shop. for instance, rock surfaces define the reception desk and working stations while the cement mixture creates walls that bound the hair washing sinks and accessories showcase area.

taking the aesthetic one step further, the architecture is accompanied by a graphic design approach that is based on handmade drawings. ‘the sketches communicate the style and primitive essence of the space. it focuses on the idea that each customer is a work of art whereas the stylist is the artist,’ says gomez.
