architect henning larsen has passed away at age 87 in his home in copenhagen. founder of the international firm that created the likes of the danish embassy of riyadh, the malmo city library and the royal danish opera, his presence and impression on architectural thought and practice transcends his realized work. active for more than 50 years, generations of danish architects owe seminal ideas about the choreography of space and light to the architect both through analysis and concepts posited in skala, a journal which he published for more than 10 years, as well as a long run as a professor at the royal danish academy of fine arts. throughout his career, henning larsen garnered the most revered awards in the creative profession, most recently, the prince consort of denmark’s europe nostra award 2013 and the praemium imperiale in 2012. while his funeral will take place in silence, the productive din of place-making architecture will remain in his stead.
