chilean studio felipe assadi arquitectos has designed a prototypical prefabricated home that measures a total of 80 square meters. taking just 45 days to assemble, ‘casa remota’ — or ‘remote house’ — has been constructed near the city of valparaíso, offering sweeping views along the region’s dramatic coastline.

divided into four equal modules of 3.5 x 6 meters, the building is small enough to be transported quickly and easily. in addition to the home’s primary living accommodation, the proposal consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a cellar. the installation order of the units can be customized, with the opportunity to attach new modules during the home’s lifespan.

made from locally sourced pinewood, the structure’s lateral façades are formed of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which present expansive external views. lightweight foundations are also employed, with bespoke electrical and plumbing infrastructure integrated within the design. the prefabricated home seeks to not only provide a less expensive alternative to more permanent dwellings, but also offer its user a sophisticated and sustainable design, which can be readily built and continually adapted.
