this residential property on the outskirts of buenos aires has been constructed amid seven protected cedar trees that densely occupy the permitted buildable area. named ‘casa VIB’, the dwelling was designed by argentinian practice estudio BaBO for a photographer and his partner.

the property has been constructed amid seven protected cedar trees

the longitudinal volume is positioned parallel to the site’s west boundary, with the primary façade oriented towards the forest. the volume is split between two blocks, allowing a path for the main entrance. the ground floor, which houses the domestic program, establishes a connection with the surrounding environment through a patio positioned between the dining room and the living room. at the upper storey, a work studio adjoins a roof terrace that presents panoramic views of the forest.

the use of brick obtains a single vertical module which defines the entirety of the home’s façade

the project employs different combinations of industrialized black brick to obtain a single vertical module which defines the entirety of the façade. the vertical bond is analogous to the trees’ natural corrugation, while simultaneously reflecting the different rhythms of light and shadow.

a roof terrace presents panoramic forest views

an external patio is positioned between the dining room and the living room

a barbeque and grill area at the rear of the dwelling
