located on the banks of the thames in the town of weybridge, uk, the ‘chiquet flood house’ is elevated 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) above ground in order to negotiate the possibility of rising water levels. designed by ben adams architects, the structure replaces an existing, smaller dwelling, and provides improved living conditions for the residents. on the south side, the home’s larger volume opens toward the river through multiple elements including a large door, an expansive framed view, and a wide staircase to the shoreline.
