adding another high-profile project to his ever expanding collection of work, norman foster has been revealed as the architect behind ‘551 west 21st street‘, a residential tower located in downtown manhattan, new york. developed by scott resnick of SR capital, the 19-storey structure comprises 44 individual residences, each filled with natural light, and incorporating a carefully considered use of materials.

the cast concrete façade presented to the street frames expansive windows oriented to benefit from southwestern light. the majority of the units are 3-5 bedroom apartments with multiple exposures, accessed through private elevators. three full-floor penthouses occupy the upper levels of the tower, offering panoramic views across the hudson river. internally, column-free volumes allow for fluid and connected spaces, with clearly defined areas for foyers, grand galleries, libraries and dining rooms.
